CyberG.IRL partnership with “The Hidden Genius Project”

This weekend was our official final meeting of CyberG.IRL!

This 10 week partnership with @hiddengeniuspro taught our youth how to code, write and design their own website from absolute scratch. They had to learn Javascript with no prior knowledge, source photos and write engaging articles to create their first ever digital magazine.

@hiddengeniuspro is especially cool because their organization trains young Black men how to code and those students go on to teach others their own age. And with that, they can see that coding can be done by someone in their own age group. The youth teaching the youth!

This was probably one of our biggest projects to date and I think they did a pretty good job for first-time coders!

Because of the girls’ dedication, each girl was surprised and rewarded with a brand new Macbook Air. They were also given free hotspots with internet access through @human_i_t

We had a 100% retention rate for the entire program!

92% of the participants in the program said they would definitely consider a career in a digital career path.

The project was so successful we were featured on Channel 4, 7, and the LA Sentinel.
